HOW TO: iphone photography & favorite apps

picture perfect.

It has been said that the best camera is the one you have with you, and with all the running around these days, and always so many lovely things to capture while traipsing about, often the only camera on hand is my iphone, which have come to rely on more and more for so many things, but especially the camera; and since joining instagram some time ago, have been having the loveliest time sharing little glimpses here and there, of everyday life and so, thought it might be fun to share a few favorite apps along the way . . .

{FAVORITE APPS}

. . . normally only use two or three apps other than instagram, but sometimes I prefers to play around with a broader range, and so, a few of my favorites:

  1. accu camera : to steady shots
  2. over : for adding texts over images
  3. ps express : for cropping & rotating images
  4. snapspeed : a powerful app for selective photo edits & filters
  5. instagram : for filters & sharing
  6. pro hdr : for combining two of the same images to extend the dynamic range
  7. picfx : for filters & bokeh effects
  8. afterlight : for a large collection of amazing filters and effects
  9. pic frame : to split images into separate frames & create colleges
  10. toy slr : for creating focus & blur

COCKTAIL HOUR: stocking a home bar

bar cart.

If there’s one thing every good party needs, it’s a well-stocked bar. Having the right liquors, mixers and fresh ingredients can make the difference between a great cocktail party and a total bust, so it’s best to have the essentials handy before you even think about inviting guests over for drinks.

stock the necessities.

The first thing you need to consider is the liquor. Stock your favorites, but have some premium quality liquors on hand, including vodka, dark and light rum, bourbon, tequila, gin and orange liqueur. With these staples, you’ll be able to field almost any cocktail request.

And, when it comes time to purchase your liquors, remember that quality always trumps quantity.

wine and beer.

On average, you should have a white wine and a red wine, with champagne only for special occasions. Stick with a crisp chardonnay, and a Cabernet or Pinot Noir.

Keep two different types of beer in your bar. For parties, stocking a light and a regular beer is your best bet. Pick popular or common beers, such as Budweiser, Coors, Miller, Heineken, etc.

the mixers.

Before any party, you’ll want to stock up on basic mixers and any garnishes required for the cocktails you are planning to make. To keep things simple, you may want to offer your guests a few limited specialty cocktails as well as an assortment of basic drinks. Basic essentials include:

  • Club soda
  • Juice (orange, cranberry and pineapple)
  • Soft drinks (cola, lemon-lime and ginger ale)
  • Tonic water

To expand your repertoire of available cocktails, add:

  • More juices (tomato, grapefruit and lime)
  • Sour mix
  • Bitters
  • Grenadine
  • Simple syrup
  • Vermouth
  • Tabasco Sauce

Finally, consider including some spices and garnishes for any specific cocktails you want to make. These can include:

  • Fruit wedges (lemon, lime, orange)
  • Maraschino cherries
  • Olives
  • Whipped cream
  • Nutmeg
  • Coarse salt and super-fine sugar (for coating glass rims)

the barware.

Having a well stocked bar with alcohol and mixers really means nothing if you aren’t equipped with the right gear. The equipment needed to mix a cocktail is simple to master, and you don’t need a lot of it. These are the tools that are going to help you impress your guests:

  • Corkscrew
  • Cocktail shaker
  • Bottle opener
  • Jigger
  • Citus zester
  • Muddler
  • Bar spoon
  • Napkins
  • Straws
  • Knife and cutting board
  • Ice bucket and ice

Mr. Boston’s official bartenders guide it the ultimate recipe book. Keep this on hand so you’re never caught feeling like a rookie.

the glassware.

Since the shape and volume of the glass can affect the taste of a beverage, every type of drink deserves its own glass. Keep in mind you only need the basics:

  • Old Fashioned
  • Highball
  • Coupe
  • Martini
  • Wine

Stocking these tools, liquors and mixers for your bar will guarantee that you can cover almost any drink someone requests, as well as your own favorites. Set up your bar area in a corner of your kitchen or in a large cupboard so you can access it easily.

Cheers!

LIFE: fire starter.

I found myself captivated by your flame, doing your dance in the wind driving me insane. My rose by any other name and when the time came for me to sin you were a wildfire, too large for me to tame, but you knew I’d try and I knew you’d pretend. But as we all know, all good things must come to an end and eventually we’d extinguish the same way we weren’t supposed to begin. Smoldering slowly, fighting our way through the smoke and mirrors in the hopes that somehow the rubble would help us see everything clearer. But as I found out, this wouldn’t be the case because whether we realize it or not every move we make is kerosene laced. We’re all so flammable by nature, who knew, yet we go around lighting matches and igniting shit as if we’re all fireproof.

LIFE: new beginning.

I like change. I like being scared, it makes me feel alive. I need some kind of emotion to overtake my senses. I like parties where you only know a few people so you can meet more. I like dressing up. I like genuine smiles that make you smile in return. I like shameless flirting with random strangers you’ll never seen again. I like big hugs that give you butterflies. I like feeling beautiful in every sense of the world, inside and out. I am a 20 something year old here to share my frivolous escapade with the world, whether it be fashion, beauty, or stories of my own life and love. I have an obsession with the glamourous life, beautiful people, and all things pretty. Welcome to my blog. Enjoy the journey!
